Around 11 a.m. an adult Northern Shrike was under one of our feeders with a
very small bird under its talons. Its flew up to the lilac bush nearby and
looked ready to land when it saw my partner John at the window and took off.
John was unable to identify the little bird. Needless to say there were no
birds around the house after that. About ½ hour later I discovered that the
Shrike had returned and was perched at the top of a locust tree. After a
half hour or so he left and birds started returning, beginning with those
bold little Chickadees. We live on Weybridge Road out toward Snake Mt. so
if anyone is driving around the Lemon Fair valley, keep an eye out for the
PS We also watched a Red Tail chase a Rough Leg across a nearby field and
Snow Buntings are in a field between Drake and Prunier Roads.
Back to counting.
