Good afternoon, Med-libbers,

One of my patrons wants to find the definition(s) of clinical safety, in
regards to prescribing medical devices or pharmaceuticals, as well as in
terms of conducting research. In other words, how does one define and
measure whether an intervention is *safe *and not just effective? I'm
having difficulty finding this information. Most of what I've found just
says that something is safe or that safety needs to be assessed or
reported. I've searched medical and engineering databases, as well as the
FDA website. I've also pulled handbooks about how to conduct clinical
trials. Does anyone have any other suggestions?
