GOOD night! Fellow birders, 

This evening I decided to stop by the wetlands on Pond Road where the rails have been heard reliably this spring. I was hoping to hear the Least Bittern, but had to settle for three Soras, two American Bitterns, and a Virginia Rail. All were heard in the larger pool of open water of the wetland, north side of Pond Road. One Sora sang (ker-wee, ker-wee) constantly, for about 30 minutes. The spring peepers were vying for attention as well, quite loud, making a good audio recording of this rail futile. Then I noticed what sounded like two other Soras, on either side of the first one. They were calling incessantly...and loudly (single, high "pip" calls), higher in pitch than the peepers, but so similar I wasn't convinced at first that they were birds. Finally, each one belted out a couple of rounds of downward whinnies. (Nice!) 

Meanwhile, the American Bitterns could be heard occasionally as well as the Virginia Rail, which vocalized several different ways.
