Who needs a cup of coffee in the morning when five Evening Grosbeaks come to the feeder. Two females and three males. They stayed long enough for me to get the camera out but only one took seed from the feeder. And as quickly as they arrived, they took off. Probably a platform feeder would have kept them a little longer, but I don't have one. Forty-nine years ago when I first came to Vermont there was an open "house" style feeder already on the property in Shaftsbury and
almost daily a flock of 20 or25 EVGR came to empty that feeder. I was not a "birder" then but surely the experience helped lay the foundation for my eventual interest in birding.
