An additional way to reduce messages (and save disk space) is if
people could use the database functions of the list to retrieve
postings they've accidentally deleted. E.g., there have been
several requests for past items on "Internet justification" and
recently a request for items on being a listowner. One can
search the files by sender and by subject. (Can search other fields,
but I find them not as efficient.) This doesn't ALWAYS work,
esp. when people don't use appropriate subject headings, or one
doesn't have a clue as to the subject heading - but it is a
means for obtaining the actual postings w/o having someone else
take the time to transfer the file - if many people respond (folks
are soooo nice!), that represents a lot of duplicate time use.
I did a search for word "listowner" in subject heading and came
up with these item numbers in medlib-l: 007304, and 007324. One
then requests items from the archives by the number.
On the other hand, I'm trying to find the information discussed
on "outsourcing" and couldn't find it - so if anyone has
THAT information.....
