What is MediaLink?

MediaLink is a hypermedia authoring tool that allows users to
develop their own multimedia lessons by assembling a variety of
text materials, sound files, digitized photos, or QuickTime
movies. MediaLink currently runs on the Macintosh, but will be
available for Windows in the first quarter of 1996.

"Researchers at the University of South Carolina have developed
an easy-to-learn tool that lets users quickly build multimedia
projects."

"The tool, called MediaLink," gives users the ability to link
text, sounds, images, and movies. While not as powerful as many
"authoring" tools used to create multimedia, MediaLink is free,
and students can be taught to use it in little more than two 
hours, compared to weeks or even months of instruction for other
packages.

"Robert L. Oakman, a professor of computer science and head of
the MediaLink development group, says thousands of people have 
learned to use the software. 'Because it's easy to learn and
use, students use it to write multimedia term papers. Teahcers
who have digital resources can very quickly put together a 
presentation in class without having to spend a lot of time studying
the program.'

"The progran's ability to transfer information among users makes 
it ideal for use in distance learning, he says, "If you're a 
teacher, you can send multimedia presentations to a studetn, and
teh student can work with the information you've sent.
