HERE IS A LITTLE LETTER ABOUT THE OTHER CANDIDATES! REMEMBER....
WITHOUT A DOUBT...VOTE JENNINGS AND GROUT!
Dear Fellow Classmates,
We would like to introduce ourselves to you. We are the alternative. Our
names are Samantha Grout and Audrey Jennings, and we're running for President
and Vice of the SGA. We are both Juniors, and are actively involved on campus.
We both are striving for change on the UVM campus and want to put the pieces
together to create a unified UVM community.
How? Well, first we want to state that for us, the most important people
on campus are the students. Without student input, talking with Sororities,
Fraternities, Club Officers, and Advisors, we wouldn't have put this together.
We gathered ideas from other colleges, their students and their SGA officers and
mixed it all together to create our platform. The suggestions that we received
made us excited for change. Then we decided that the best way to share our
ideas and our enthusiasm was to run for SGA offices. Here are just some of our
ideas for change...
One of our favorite ideas is the creation of the CORT system at UVM. That
is the Clubs and Organizations Representative Team. It is for officers of Clubs
and Organizations across campus to get together in one room, each club with one
representative to discuss Club issures. Funding, spirit, projects, events, and
fund raising are just some of the issues. This would allow clubs to have a
direct link with the SGA. The Vice President of the SGA would sit as chair of
the CORT, and the representatives would discuss issues during the monthly
meetings. The Vice President would report back to the Senate. This would
create a close link between the clubs and the SGA.
We also support another great idea brought to us by one of you--the idea of
increasing the number of senators in the senate by 5. Four of the new positions
would be appointed by the ALANA community in a closed election. One position
would be filled by an appointed member of the GLBA community. This is how
Loyola increased diveristy on the senate. THe positions would remain appointed
for a set time period, most likely five years. Once the appointments are not
necessary and the voice of the ALANA and GLBA community are being heard during
the common elcetions, the appointments will be terminated. We agree that this
is an important issue and feel the UVM community will benefit and become more
unified from it.
Here are a few more ideas that we will briefly throw at you:
****On line course evaluations created by students. If you want to know about a
course or a professor, look it up! No censorship by professors, faculty, or the
administration!
****Involving Graduate students in clubs and organizations!
****Increase funding for clubs!
****On line test archives...want to know the type of test your professor gives?
Look up the test s/he gave last year!
****Home/Web pages for all clubs
****Get instantaneous SGA updates for your organization over your clubs personal
email address which eliminates old paper mail and wasted trips to the box at the
SGA office
****We will fight against mandatory Deferred RUSH and promote the Greek
community!
****Challenge the administration to be seen on campus. You know, come to the
round room for lunch...WE DARE YOU TO STEP OUT OF WATERMAN!
****We believe and care about off-campus student housing rights, we will fight
for you!
****We believe spirit can be found at UVM and look forward to working with
students and the Greek community to bring back UVM pride!
THESE ARE JUST A FEW OF THE IDEAS BROUGHT TO US BY YOU! You are what counts at
UVM. That is why we believe in STUDENTS FIRST!
We hope that you, our peers, see that we do care about you and UVM. We hope to
guide UVM into the future with on line voting and hope to cherish the past with
enhancing spirit and tradition. It is possible to have the best of both worlds
we heard that from all of the students we talked to across campus!
