I am looking for input, opinions, gut feelings on the following copyright
situation. I need your responses by Thursday morning.
Currently, our video tape dubbing equipment is located in Media Services.
The Media tech's do all the copying, and they absolutely will not make
copies of copyrighted material.
It has been proposed that the dubbing equipment be placed in the LRC.
The following guidelines have been suggested:
        -It would be self service.
-A sign with the copyright law would be prominently posted by the
-A form would be completed by the person doing the copying for
each video copied. The form would include:
                -Standard copyright statement
-A disclaimer stating that the individual doing the
copying is responsible for any infraction of the law,
                 not our institution.
-Some type of statement saying that by signing and dating
the form, the individual is aware of the law and is not
                 breaking it.
-The name of the video, publisher, etc. would be recorded.
We are interested in your responses to two specific questions:
1. Would we be copyright compliant? Why or why not?
2. If the individual signs the form, would our hospital be protected
legally if someone did break the law?
Many thanks for your patience in reading this. I look forward to your
responses. I've talked to 2 collegues on the phone and got 2 opposing
view points already. This should be interesting.
