the reference I know is Dr. Noreen Turos work on Paleodiet and
Biochemistry (Smithsonian Inst., Washington).
She presented a lot of d13C and d15N data on single amino acids of
bone collagen to test the entire ecosystem variability of these
parameters at the Archeometry Symposium 96 (May) in Urbana/Illinios.

"The range of values for both carbon and nitrogen isotopes of
individual amino acids from single protein often exceeds the
variability of these parameters in an entire ecosystem, and in some
case, is greater than all of the data reported for an entire organism
