Dear Lab-news members,
The following information may be of use to you and people you work with
who subscribe to email lists served from list.uvm.edu -- such as this
list, lab-news.
If you own (manage) email lists on list.uvm.edu, you've been sent a
message explaining what's going to happen, and for those lists you
subscribe to, you've received a message as well. While we've tried hard
to make those communications clear, I understand that it's a confusing
topic.
If I can answer any questions or concerns that aren't addressed in the
online documents mentioned below, please contact me directly or via
lab-news. Thanks for helping us help UVMers make the migration into
"the zoo!"

Subject: Update on zoo conversion (incl. list subscriptions)
As part of the ongoing conversion to zoo, subscriptions to lists on
list.uvm.edu from Moose addresses will automatically be changed to Zoo
addresses next Monday. All affected subscribers (and list owners) are
being notified by e-mail - the msg is appended to this one. More info
about how Zoom affects mailing list subscriptions is available online -
pick "news and hot topics" on the CIT web site.
A newsletter with cover article encouraging people to "Zoom" is at the
print shop now - online version is already available at
http://www.uvm.edu/cit/newsletter/fall96
....or a pdf version is available at
http://www.uvm.edu/cit/newsletter/fall96/fall96.pdf

[note: in the actual msg, the user's login name will appear in place
of xxxx and the listname will appear in place of llllllll]
As a convenience to those Moose users who have already activated their
Zoo accounts (or are about to), we will be changing people's
subscription
addresses from Moose to Zoo automatically on Monday evening Oct. 28,
1996.
For you, this means that we will be
changing: [log in to unmask]
to: [log in to unmask]
for the llllllll discussion list you belong to at UVM's Listproc site
(list.uvm.edu).
Once this change occurs, the list will recognize your subscription
address as [log in to unmask] If you have not already activated your Zoo
account, you'll want to do so. You will still be able to receive mail
from the list at your Moose address, but you may not be able to post
messages to the list or unsubscribe from it until you activate your Zoo
account.
To activate your Zoo account, just log in to your Moose account and
type:
zoom
then follow the instructions on your screen. Your files will
immediately
be accessible from your Zoo account, your e-mail will still reach you,
and you can benefit from the additional processing power of the Zoo
cluster. Note: the Zoom process will send you an e-mail message; you
should pay special attention to the paragraph called "Mailing Lists."
Moose users can "zoom" to Zoo anytime this semester. After the end of
the semester, logging in to Moose will no longer be possible. So zoom
on
over to Zoo now!
For more information, see the web site at:
http://www.uvm.edu/cit/zoo/
If you have questions about Zoom or about how this affects your
subscription, send e-mail to [log in to unmask] or call the HelpLine at
656-2604.
