WHOOPI GOLDBERG TO SPEAK AT UVM COMMENCEMENT MAY 17
Academy Award-winner Whoopi Goldberg will be the speaker at the
University of Vermont’s 1997 Commencement on Saturday, May 17.
Goldberg has won numerous awards and considerable acclaim for her
work in film, television, recordings and theater. She is equally
well-known for her tireless humanitarian efforts.
She made her motion picture debut in "The Color Purple," for
which she earned an Academy Award nomination and a Golden Globe
Award. Her performance in "Ghost" earned her an Academy Award and
a Golden Globe Award, both for best supporting actress. Goldberg
also has starred in such films as "Jumpin' Jack Flash," "Clara's
Heart," "The Long Walk Home," "Soapdish," "The Player,"
"Sarafina!," "Sister Act," "Made in America," "Corrina, Corrina,"
"Boys on the Side," "Moonlight and Valentino," "Eddie," "Bogus"
and "The Associate." She can be seen currently in "Ghosts of
Mississippi."
On television, Goldberg has appeared in many series and specials,
including "Star Trek: The Next Generation," "Bagdad Cafe," her
own syndicated late-night talk show and seven "Comic Relief"
telecasts, which she co-hosted with Billy Crystal and Robin
Williams. She earned Emmy Award nominations for hosting the
Academy Awards telecasts in 1994 and 1996.
Goldberg made her literary debut in 1992, with her children's
book, "Alice," and currently is writing her second book. She
stars on Broadway in "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the
Forum" through June.
