I would like to second Margo Nimon's remarks about toe raises. I know that
there's always been a bias in the literature toward treadmill, since it
more or less replicates the activity associated with claudication. However,
we have felt good about our toe-raise results--we were pretty sure we got a
good challenge with it, without either the clutter of the treadmill or the
cardiac stress. Thankfully, toe-raises got validated in JVT a couple of
years ago, producing nearly the same pressure-drop as treadmill (given the
same patient/degree of disease).
I'm just as glad to be able to challenge the LE circulation without
worrying about my CPR technique.
