Background methane from laboratory air from Bloomington, Indiana, had d13C
of -46.8 sd 0.1 permil, and air samples from Alaskan tundra environments
had CH4 with d13C from -47.1 to -50.6 permil. A description of an
analytical system for d13C measurements of background CH4 in air by
GC-C-irmMS, together with the results cited above, can be found in Merritt
et al, JGR v.100 nD1, pp 1317-1326, 1995.
