There's no way that I am going to try and out-do Zach Sharp's reference
list. However, I can recommend an excellent book by Tyson R.V. (1995,
Sedimentary organic matter, p615, Chapman and Hall, London). He covers a
wide range of aspects relating to algae (ancient and modern), it is
up-to-date and has heaps of references.
