It is definitely needed.  A testbox of some sort fills a very important

Testing for Wes.  :)  And a sandbox for CIT in general.

RS/6000 running AIX.  Perhaps the "best" solution would be to make the 43P
that is currently chipmunk become mole, and purchase a new cit server to
replace chipmunk.  There are times that chipmunk is seriously underpowered
for the applications Wes wants to run on there.  A new 43P (similar to the
calendar server) would be able to easily handle the load.  The "old" 43P
would be a very good mole replacement though.

Yup.  That's what I would suggest.

I have to admit that I'd love to have a great Linux box replace mole,
however, it would probably be in CIT's best interest to have an AIX box
since that is our strategic Unix OS.

Nope.  Regardless of NT's future here at UVM, we need a Unix testbox to
replace mole.
