Did they check loading time for all of us who have dial access connections?
This is the slowest loading site I've seen in ages. I'm using latest
edition of Netscape, 233 Mhz Pentium processor, and plenty of RAM (48K).
I'm connected at 28.8, the highest rate supported by local phone company.
I simply cannot believe the loading time.
And, why, why, has MLA gone to a frames site that keeps you there, in their
frame, as you move on to other sites? This is one of my biggest complaints
about websites.
Then, we have links to nothing (areas under development), like the
Educational Clearinghouse long promised to CE course developers - still
isn't there after two years, even though this is a benefit supposedly
covered by our course approval fees. Waiting to find that there's nothing
there takes almost as long as linking to a page with content.
I wish that librarians on the web would worry more about content and
efficient access, and less about the latest bells and whistles. Remember,
not everyone has the technology to appreciate the glitz. I have a lot more
than most with dial access, and I'm disappointed.
Yes, this is copied to the webmaster. I was going to wait to send until I
cooled down to send this to the list. Then thought, why am I afraid to
speak my piece in public. So, here it is, and I'll get back to work.
