My Fellow Senators,
        I have one simple question for Senators Pontbriand and Turi: Why
are we basing policy making concerns upon the performance (or lack
thereof)of our current senate?  By your rationale, if no senator felt
like voting than we should just whisk the institution of voting off the
books.  Do we want to attempt constitutional progress based on a few
slackers?
        To be quite frank, we need to have both an optimistic view and
an open mind when devising ways to modify the constitution.  If a problem
exists that might be able to be alleviated by an amendment, then we should
try to make that amendment rather than throwing up our hands in
frustration because there have been failures in the past.
        In addition, your policy advocates maintaining the status quo; a
status quo you yourselves have indicated is bad!  Now, it seems to me that
we should find some constructive criticisms for Senator Luti rather than
a blanket rejection.  If we want to improve the integrity of Senate we
need to do it either outside or within the constitution.  You have
suggested neither route.  I support Senator Luti and until you present
some form of viable alternative, his is the plan I will adopt.
