The Northern Forest Heritage Conference offers an opportunty to explore and
celebrate the rich cultural heritage of the 26 million acre Northern Forest
that stretches across northern Maine, Vermont, New Hamphsire and New York.
Specifically designed for educators, historians, folklorists, heritage and
tourism leaders, economic development professionals and others interested in
the culture and heritage of the Northern Forest, the conference in designed to
help participants explore, learn about, and build upon the rich human history
of the region.

The conference will offer more than a dozen workshops, performances,
presentations and discussion opportunities spanning a wide range of topics
from traditional arts in the Northern Forest to the role of cultural heritage
in community development. See below for a detailed agenda and registration
information.

In addition to hearing from experts and practitioners in the field, the
conference will also focus on how leaders in culture, heritage, tourism and
community development can work together to create a greater understanding and
appreciation of the history and heritage of the Northern Forest. Conference
participants will have the opportunity to discuss and shape cooperative
regional heritage initiatives that can strengthen the sense of regional
identity and promote robust communities and a healthy forest.

The Northern Forest Center, a non-profit organization, has been established to
act as a non-advocacy convener of ideas and dialogue on Northern Forest
issues ranging from ecology to economics, community development and cultural
heritage. We seek to ensure a healthy, productive future for the Northern
Forest's culture, communities, environment and economies by supporting
increased regional collaboration and citizen leadership.
