Hi everyone.
Please remember that we would love for these messages to be circulated as
much as possible! The more students, staff, faculty and community members
that get involved - the better.
Our June 3 meeting went well. The next meeting will be Friday, June 26 from
9-11 at the Women's Center.
The Fall Student Activist Conference will be held Saturday, October 31,
from 10-3.
The conference follows the Friday, October 30, keynote address by Kathleen
Neal Cleaver, Former Commmunications Secretary for the Black Panther Party.
This will take place at 7:30 p.m. at Ira Allen Chapel and will be FREE and
open to the public.
I. All workshops will take place in Waterman. Lunch will be in the Waterman
Manor. The Conference will run from 10-3, with two sets of workshops, lunch
in between and a very quick wrap-up. All workshops will be geared towards
activism and how to act/lead immediately.
II. The 6 workshops were chosen. The titles may vary after facilitators
have been determined. Thus far, they are as follows:
*Ending Discrimination Against Women...Where do we Begin?
*Active Women in the Sports World
*Women, Health and the Environment
*Sexual Violence Against Women
*Body Image, the Media & Consumerism
*Feminism, Faith and Choices
III. A conference title is still to be determined. Ideas include "Consuming
Activism" and "Women, Activism and Community"
IV. There will be a lunch panel discussing activism in the professional
world ( including but not limited to: ethics on the job, career choices,
etc.). This panel will include a medical practitioner, a recent college
grad working for a non-profit organization and a local politician.
PLEASE JOIN US AT OUR NEXT PLANNING MEETING JUNE 26 FROM 9-11. ALSO, PLEASE
REMIND YOUR FRIENDS AND COLLEAGUES! All IDEAS AND SUGGESTIONS ARE GREATLY
APPRECIATED!
