Health Sciences Library System, University of Pittsburgh

The Health Sciences Library System (HSLS) invites applications for the
newly created position of Outreach/Reference Librarian for Western
Psychiatric Institute & Clinic (WPIC) Library. This is a unique and
exciting opportunity to create a new structure for the delivery of library
and information services to affiliated mental health professionals and
service providers in Western Pennsylvania.  Position reports to HSLS
Associate Director for Administrative Services, and works closely with
faculty and administrators at WPIC, as well as HSLS Coordinator of
Affiliated Hospital Services, and other HSLS staff members.  Major
responsibilities are to provide leadership in the development,
implementation and administration of WPIC Library outreach services,
including educational programming, reference assistance, specialized
presentations, publicity, and marketing.  Position will also participate
in the provision of reference services to faculty, staff and students of
the Department of Psychiatry and WPIC.

Environment:  The Health Sciences Library System consists of the Library
of the Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic, the Falk Library of the
Health Sciences, and the Nursing School Library.  WPIC Library is one of
the world's most comprehensive resources in psychiatry and the behavioral
sciences.  WPIC Library facilities and services are heavily used not only
by the faculty and staff, but also students and employees of the
University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, University of Pittsburgh, and
state and local psychiatric and mental health institutions.  Library
systems include OVID and other full-text and bibliographic resources.
HSLS staff includes 18 professionals and 32 support staff.  Professional
growth is supported and strongly encouraged.  For additional information

Qualifications:  The applicant must have an ALA-accredited MLS degree, and
significant reference experience using MEDLINE, other biomedical or
psychological resources and the Internet in a health sciences or academic
library.   Strongly preferred are experience in the application of
technology for the provision of information services, experience in
developing and teaching classes and workshops to adult learners, an
undergraduate psychology or science degree, and/or work experience in a
health or mental health setting.  Evidence of outstanding interpersonal
and communication skills and continued professional growth must be
presented.   Applicant must be outgoing, energetic, team-oriented,
flexible, and able to work both independently and collaboratively in a
complex, rapidly changing environment.

Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications, negotiable from
$36,000.  Position is a full-time, non-tenured, faculty librarian
