Hello everybody. Here is a "cute" one, or it would be cute if it wasn't
shameful, esp when we are dealing with Luppincott Williams & Wilkins a
Wolters Kluwer Company, and the American Heart Association is in on it, too:
On October 30, 1998, we received one of those "looks like an invoice"
mailing, for a jouunal titled "Artheriosclerosis, Thrombosis & Vascular
Biology" for 12 issues, $283. Also, in the same mail, there was an
identical format invoice, this one from the American Heart Assoc., AND
William & Wilkins (this time "a Waverly Company") for a single issue from
same above journal. Upon close examination (and a waste of time), the
first one carried a notation PRICE QUOTATION THIS IS NOT AN INVOICE, and
the second PROMO: K8J042A, GRATIS ORDER SAMPLE COPY / JRL REVIEW
THe one giveaway was that both were addressed to our Office Manager
by name (how did they come up with that one?). Her puzzled note to me
said she is having a "senior moment"....
All I can say is that I did not expect such shady practice from one of
our best and _up-to-now_ reliable publishers. Are things that tough in the
publishing world?
I will have to locate an e-mail address and/or mail the expression of my
disgust to both the Am. Heart Association and the publisher -
