What precisely do you mean by this?  Do you mean military folks who are
scientists, or scientists turned military?  There are reports of certain
scientists miffed at their reviewers and competition taking arms or
administering poisons, but these are most likely disparate unorganized events
instead of battling scientist entities...  Are you wondering what sort of
military money is being utilized by scientists like the $10 million dollar
grant here at the U of M to study antigerm lipids?  Look into the Veteran's
Administration research efforts, they have excellent funding, facilities and
faculty.  There is a story about a new Chinese post-doc at the Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention who was surprised to see his employees dressing
up in military uniform on his second day of work - he was scared that some
sort of coup had occured overnite - the CDCP to keep their military funding
had capitulated to military uniform regulations, once a week.  Of course the
face of science today has been very much shaped by the military:  General
Groves' compartmentalized organization of the Los Alamos physicists did much
to squelch free speech amongst scientists and to foster the current
competitive atmosphere.
