I feel this list serve is very helpful as chair of the
Legislative Committee. I read the comments every day and it gives me a
better feeling of how you all feel.
Please talk to the clerks and treasurers around you and make sure
that they are on this list serve. If not, help them get on.
S 46 is a very important bill to all of us and we need to be
ready to state our opinion very soon. Molly from VLCT called me yesterday
and there is a lot of talk around the State House about the election
bills. I believe it is going to be hard to have a consensus on some of
these issues. I intend to ask clerks throughout the State to testify with
their opinions. These opinions, I am sure, generally, will be due to the
size of our offices, the number of people on our checklist and probably
due to our personally beliefs about the election process. I believe that
the majority of the clerks in the State of Vermont see the election
process as very sacred. We are very concerned with some of the proposed
changes. If you do not have a copy of Senate Bill 46, Senate Bill 48 and
House Bill 64, contact your legislators and ask them to get a copy for
you. This will do two things - it will let them know that you are aware
of this legislation and it will give you the opportunity to see it as
introduced.
I cannot emphasize enough about getting this information to the
total membership and that the total membership get on this list serve.
Call your neighboring clerks and ask if they are on. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT
THAT WE HEAR FROM THEM!!!!!
