I want to share with you that Deanna Evans-Schilling (Executive Comm.) work
with student teachers and parents in her Parent Power Project is featured
in a California Department of Education 1999 document entitled "Joining
Hands." California is actively encouraging teacher ed programs to add a
standard on parent involvement. The standard is based on Joyce Epstein's
six categories of parent involvement. I included this standard in my course
on curriculum development and will promote its inclusion in our reading
tutoring program so that our students actively dialogue with the parents of
