RE: E-Biomed Proposal and MLA

To follow-up Scott's reference, MLA responded to the E-Biomed Proposal with
a message to Dr. Varmus around May 25, 1999, and he in turn acknowledged
the receipt of MLA's message (the Board discussed E-Biomed at their
pre-MLA'99 meetings). Unfortunately, MLA's message of support and
recommendation to add a medical librarian to the planning board is not
posted to the Proposal's web site.

>Recently Pamela Van Hine (I think) commented on NIH's proposal for the
>establishment of "E-BIOMED", a Web site for the publication of all new
>biomed research, and wondered why it wasn't the subject of more discussion.
>Perhaps the discussion is finally starting. The _NEJM_, June 10, 1999, vol.
>340 (23), pp. 1828-1829 contains an editorial by Arnold S. Relman, with whom
>I agree, on the subject.
