At MLA in Kansas City Clifford Stoll said that you can only have
two of the following: good, fast, cheap

Medlars Elhill wasn't free.

Some of us went to OVID search software because it was not
only more versatile but less expensive at the time.

Now OVID has many features that make it more efficient than
the NLM free options -- like local holdings messages and the
ability to limit a search to local holdings.

I
I'm glad that NLM is offering the public free search engines
for some of its databases. I'd also be willing to bet that
a lot of librarians would still be willing to pay for a
a middle option.
