FACULTY POSITION VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
REFERENCE/HEALTH SCIENCES SPECIALIST (TENURE TRACK)
DEPARTMENT OF REFERENCE & INSTRUCTIONAL SERVICES
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides reference, information and instructional services in the
Department of Reference and Instructional Services. Serves as
principal liaison/subject-specialist to the Colleges of Allied Health
Sciences, Optometry and Pharmacy. Liaison services include
oversight of the health sciences collection, specialized
instruction/information literacy, reference and collection
development. Shares general and specialized reference desk
service including some evenings and weekends. Fosters
networking in west Michigan to continue building a regional
resource in the health-related fields. Participates in library
assessment and appropriate university-wide activities.
Coordinates the activities of part-time librarians, clerical personnel
and student assistants. The successful candidate will be involved
in planning for the new highly-digitalized, technologically-advanced
university library facility opening in 2001.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required - ALA accredited masters degree in a library/information
science program; evidence of course work or experience in
science reference (biological, health or physical sciences);
excellent communication, presentation, interpersonal, leadership
and organizational skills. Demonstrated competence in using
electronic information systems, online library catalogs, CD-ROM or
web-based information products and Internet/Web is a must.
Preferred - Undergraduate degree in life or health sciences;
additional graduate degree; experience in library instruction and as
a successful team leader are highly desirable. Special
consideration will be given to applicants with a background in the
fields of nursing, public health administration, allied health,
optometry or pharmacy.
SALARY:
$32,000 (minimum) for a 12-month tenure-track faculty appointment
with rank. Comprehensive benefits are provided (after applicable
eligibility and accrual periods) including 20 days vacation, 2
days personal leave, paid holidays, insurance (health, dental,
vision, life, disability), medical reimbursement account, retirement
system options, e.g., TIAA-CREF, with university contribution,
and tuition waiver.
