In view of the "improper" use of the above list server, my inclination
is to put something like this out on that server fairly quickly as long
as it represents our Board concensus. I will do so if authorized.
From the Moretown Board:
To the Waitsfield suggestion that the Valley boards file server should
be open to individual board memnbers we would respond as follows: The
purpose of the file server is to facilitate between-board discourse.
Each board should at each regular meeting give consideration to new
information on this server and respond with one voice as a board when
appropriate. In this way we are all assured that what is placed on the
file server has been filtered through a board discussion and is thus
worthy of consideration. If this discipline is not maintained, all
board members will be having to read and consider a much wider range of
comments thus forcing all of us to participate in four intra-board
discussions. Surely we have enough to do within our own board
discussions not to have to participate in those of every other board.
For these reasons we feel that we should adhere to the original
conception, at least until we can conclude through experience that the
server functioning exclusively as a between-boards vehicle is inadequate
and would be improved by expanding it in the manner suggested by
Waitsfield.
