Surprise!!!  It's already started.  See Louisiana's LMRP at

The effective date is essentially a misprint in that this LMRP was published
late in '98 and this section was added to the end of the non-invasive
vascular LMRP (not the best of locations but it still became effective in
'99).

DOCUMENTATION REQUIREMENTS:
Diagnostic Ultrasound & Echocardiography
Certification and Accreditation
CPT Codes 76506 - 76999 & 93303 - 93350
Effective January 1, 1997, all procedures must be either (1) performed by,
or under the direct supervision of, persons that have
demonstrated minimum entry level competency by being credentialed in the
specific type of procedure being performed, or (2)
performed in laboratories accredited in the specific type of evaluation.
Direct supervision requires the credentialed individuals
physical presence in the facility during the examination.
Examples of appropriate personnel certification include the Registered
Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) credential, the
Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) credential, the Registered
Cardiovascular Technologist (RCVT) credential,
or the Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT) credential. Each
credential must include the specialty area for the
examination being performed. Some examples of appropriate specialty areas
for specific Current Procedural Terminology
(CPT) codes are listed below.
CPT Code Certification
76505, 76800                                            RDMS: Neurosonology
76511 - 76529                                           RDMS: Ophthalmology,
or COMT
76536, 76645-76775, and 76870-76880             RDMS: Abdomen
76805-76857, 76941, & 76945-76948               RDMS: Obstetrics &
Gynecology
93303 - 93350                                           RDCS: Adult or
Pediatric Echocardiography, or RCVT: Noninvasive Cardiac
Appropriate laboratory accreditation includes the Ultrasound Practice
Accreditation Commission (UPAC) of the American
Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine and the Intersocietal Commission for the
Accreditation of Echocardiography Laboratories
(ICAEL). Each accreditation must include the specialty area for the
examination being performed.

Anybody go to Reno for the SVT annual meeting??.... What was the take
home message??.... who gets the credit to have the RVT a requirement for
reimbursment?... did they get a standing ovation or what ????

Ya'll should be real proud or what you accomplished....If only we could
do the same with so little at the SDMS.... ummmmmmmm    Bet you can't
make RDMS a requirement for OB in the same time frame....   Terms of the
bet.....  ????  ummmmmm
