I've had a pair of Atomic Betacarv 9.18 skis for about 2 years now and they
are a lot of fun. I generally try to save them for icy carving days, and
they do a nice job of holding an edge (I try to keep a sharp edge on them).
I have had them out in the powder before (maybe by accident ;) and they were
a blast there as well. When I got them, they suggested going about 10 cm
shorter than my regular skis, so I got them in a 190 cm and I think that has
worked out well.

Last year, I got a pair of Volant Ti Powers in the 183 cm size, and the
"shaped" feeling is even more intense than in the Betacarves. I'm not sure
if this is due to their sidecut or softness or what but it is quite
noticeable. I don't notice it on the Betacarves, but on the Volants, whether
because of their size or softness, the skiing is so easy that I sometimes
feel a bit lazy. Is this a product of growing up on long straight skis?, I
dunno, but I still try to use my long boards often to keep myself from going
"soft". After a while on the straight skis, hopping back on the Volants
really lets me feel the differences between the types of skis.
