Ph.D. STUDENT POSITION IN APPLIED GEOCHEMISTRY
At the Institute of Geochemistry and Petrography, University of Karlsruhe,
Germany the position of a project based research scientist is available,
giving to the successful candidate the opportunity to accomplish a
dissertation (Dr.rer.nat.) in applied geochemistry.
The project is to be carried out in the frame of an interdisciplinary
research group, dealing with the endangering of the underground (soil,
water) by leaking sewage systems. The geochemical and microbiological
processes in sewage contaminated underground and their influence on the
mobility of some inorganic contaminants (i.e. heavy metals) will be
investigated in collaboration with the Institute for Engineering Biology
and Biotechnology of Waste-Waters. By using primarily an isotopic approach,
emphasis will be laid on the role of sulfur and its speciation in various
biogenic and inorganic transformation processes.
The candidate should have a degree (MS or equivalent) in geosciences
(geo-ecology, geology, mineralogy), chemistry or biology. Preference will
be given to those with experience in stable isotope and trace element
The project is funded by the German Science Foundation (Deutsche
Forschungsgemeinschaft) and should be completed within 3 years. Salary is
according to BAT IIa/2. The position is available immediately.
