Dear Margaret,
You would have to email teachers from Essex to get that answer. If I had
to pick and choose, I would have to look at our district math curriculum
and pick the areas that needed to be taught. Personally, I feel that math
needs to be one hour a day to do a math program justice. I have lived
with a 37 minute period for many years and I always feel like I am rushing
and I never quite get to where I like to be. I do know that Connected
Math has 8 units per year. It is very difficult to get to that 8th unit.
When you start to implement, I think they suggest doing only four the
first year. At a workshop, I recently attended, Linda Dodge, the
facilitator also said that the last two lessons in each unit present no
new math material, so they can also be skipped if necessary.
