The Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at Purdue University
(West
Lafayette, IN USA) seeks to hire a full-time facility Manager to assume
primary
responsibility for the management of the new Purdue Stable Isotope
facility. This
position is part of a major initiative in climate and biogeochemical
cycles within
the EAS and is further complemented by two recent stable isotope
biogeochemistry
faculty additions and the newly formed Purdue Climate Change Research
Center
(
http://www.purdue.edu/climate/).  

During his/her first year of employment, the successful candidate will
primarily
assist with the installation and qualification of 2 new Finnigan Delta V
gas source
isotope ratio mass spectrometers.  The candidate will be responsible
for the
maintenance of these systems, an existing Europa 20/20 IRMS system and
associated
peripheral devices (e.g. EA, TCEA, Gasbench, multiport inlet device, gas
chromatography-combustion, Trace Gas prep).  Long-term
responsibilities associated
with this position will include training of students and technicians in
the use of
these devices, overseeing laboratory quality assurance and
standardization efforts,
and managing the daily operation of the facility.  Opportunities
will be available
for participation in the development of new analytical techniques and
participation
in a range of research projects in the biogeosciences, paleoclimatology,
and
isotope hydrology and ecology.  We seek a candidate with an advanced
degree in
analytical chemistry or a related scientific field, strong computer
skills, and the
capability and willingness to attack technical problems.  Experience
with and
interest in facilities management, mass spectrometry, and the
environmental
sciences would also be beneficial.
