Dear Wilmer,
What follows are step-by-step instructions that I wrote as an attempt
to document the procedure after "upgrading" from 486-generation computers
to Pentium II class computers for a Delta S and MAT 251 a few years
back. The instructions are for installation of Win NT 4.0/Real 32/Isodat
7.4. This is most probably not the only approach, but it worked fine for
me. Hope they help.

Moved the IEEE (Iotech) from current computer to “new” computer.
Moved cable interface board (Meilhaus).

Used original ~6G hard drive. This size can vary-bigger would be fine.

Boot to Windows NT (V 4.0 Workstation) setup floppy. Proceed with
setup. You should use Windows NT setup to create the required partitions
and format them.
Disk configuration:
Partitioned single disk into:
C: FAT 2GB active partition (where Real 32, Isodat, and Isotst will be
installed).
D: FAT Partition 3.72 GB Format. WinNT installed here.
I haven’t tried NTFS format, as I was told it wouldn’t work.
Note: the C: drive has to be that size because of the Windows NT large
disk support issue.
Specify the D: drive as the target drive for WinNT. Setup may indicate
that the disk size is too large, but tell it to go ahead anyhow.
Setup will format the C: drive firstformat as FAT. Same with D:.

Once Windows NT is installed, check the Disk Administrator to ensure that
the partitions are set as indicated above. C: is a primary, D: is a
logical. Make sure the CD Rom drive letter is E. This is important, as
the Isodat CD install path is E:.

Restart and boot to the Real 32 Installation disk 1.
Two choices: install the default configuration or specify/customize the
configuration. I specify the configuration, as I like to have print
spooling turned to “on”. That is the only variable I change in the Real 32
setup.
“NO” to secure system
“NO” to Windows files
When the installation is finished, an error will come up that indicates it
cannot write to the autoexec.bat filejust press continue, and installation
will be complete (this little quirk has arisen on both machines Real32
install). The program will indicate that installation was a success at
this point.

Restart, and test whether both Real 32 and Windows NT will load. If they
don’t, there may be a problem with the loader (in the Real32/Bin
directory), but you should be good to go at this point.
Note: if for some reason you want to disable the Real32 loader, use the
boot disk, C: Real32/bin/loader /u
This uninstalls the boot proprietary Real 32 function.

Restart, and load NT at boot.
Insert ISODAT 7.4 CD, and run the Instalcd.bat, located in the root. This
copies the install files into ISOTST, and creates other required
directories. Remember, the batch file is referring to the CD Rom as the E:
drive.

Once Instalcd.bat has done its thing, restart, as instructed.
Switch to the ISOTST directory. Note: typing prompt $p$g allows one to
view the full directory path in Real32.
Run Install from ISOTST. Proceed with Installation. Once finished DO
NOT RESTART until you run the real32upd.bat, located in ISOTST. Most
critically, this copies Isodat’s version of Real32.sys to the root (it also
copies the contents of its Isoreal to the root, if I recall
correctly). Restart. Isodat should load once you indicate “Yes” to
loading Real32
.
Note: if modifications to Real32 setup (located in the bin directory), or
ISOTST install are needed, simply CNTRL 4 out of Isodat, and temporarily
rename Start001.bat and Start004.bat, located in the root, then
restart. These are the batch files that launch isoload. Trying to run
Install while Isodat is active returns a memory error.

A mass calibration will be necessary at this point. Be sure to allow it to
complete the CO2 calibration, and save it. I manually input the methods,
standards, etc., instead of using older version of INSYSTEM. ISO and
ISOPROG. Obviously you will want everything printed out. I also recommend
printing out all *.log files.

There are issues with missing Format Editors for some of the active
configurations. I have the fix for this in a separate document if you are
interested. I had this problem with both installations, so I think I’ve
got a handle on it now.
