Grade RA1A £20,044 - £23,182 per annum (pay award pending)
Full-time, fixed-term for 2 Years
Applications are invited for an isotope analyst to join a multidisciplinary research team for two years, on a project funded by the AHRC ‘Diasporas, Migrations and Identities’ research initiative.
The project will explore the cultural and biological experience of immigrant communities in Roman Britain, and the diversity of cultural identities in this remote province. This postdoctoral position will be based at the NERC Isotope Geosciences Laboratory (NIGL) in Nottingham/Keyworth and entails the sampling of skeletal remains from a number of archaeological sites and conducting strontium and oxygen isotope analyses to investigate aspects of residential
mobility in Roman Britain.
The successful candidate will have a PhD in a relevant discipline (e.g. Archaeological Science, Geoscience), knowledge and experience of isotope analysis and proven ability to work, unsupervised when necessary, in a laboratory. Previous experience with the analyses of strontium and/or oxygen isotopes in archaeological or palaeontological bone or tooth samples is desirable, but not essential. You will be expected to construct and manage a database of samples and results, to interpret the data within the archaeological context and to prepare the results for publication. You will also have to
work closely with other members of the research team to promote and further the aims of the project.
