The fan motor in my Kiel III (1998 vintage) just failed last night.  The bearings were getting loud late last week and I was scheduled to replace the bearings this morning - I should have done it on Saturday instead of trying to push through a few more "vital" samples!  I had even set out all the tools and the new bearings set out and ready on Friday.

Back in 2002 I had some fan issues with the same Kiel and Rindy from WHOI sent me the part numbers for the fan in her Kiel.  But the strangeness is that the fan in my Kiel is completely different compared with the one in hers.  Here is the story:

My Kiel has a motor mounted outside the Kiel oven inside a cover on the back of the Kiel.  The motor shaft runs through the back of the oven box and there is a fan on the long shaft mounted directly behind the heater coils.  It was made by a company in Germany - Waldkircher, part number E1K1.B  I can't find anything on the web for this company.  The motor is something like 12 cm in diameter by 12 cm thick, shaped like a cylinder

The fans that Rindy provided information on look like a square fan from the back of a computer.  They are different sizes.  One is PAPST model 4550N, 230V, 11.7 by 11.7 cm.  The other is COMAIR Rotron model SU3B1, 230v, 8 by 8 cm.

So, my questions to the list are:   Is the fan in my Kiel different from others?  Does anyone have a part number for replacement of one like mine?  What type of fans do other people have in their kiel?

If Rindy and I were communicating correctly then I will probably just try retrofitting my Kiel with one like she told me about.  My first assumption is that I would mount the fan on standoffs maybe even using the mounting holes that the original fan used.
