Dear colleagues,

We would like to call your attention to the upcoming session on "Light element isotopes: analysis and applications to mass fluxes in the Earth" scheduled for the meeting on Micro-Analysis, Processes and Time (MAPT) in Edinburgh, on August 30st to September 3rd, 2009. The meeting is a joint meeting of the Mineralogical Society of Great Britain and Ireland, the Deutsche Mineralogische Gesellschaft, the Société Francaise de Mineralogie et de Cristallographie, and the International Association of Geoanalysts.

Isotopic measurements of light elements have received increasing attention over the last decade as a result of improvements in both bulk and in situ analyses. The session on "Light element isotopes: analysis and applications to mass fluxes in the Earth" will address both advances in analytical techniques and their application to the cycling of these elements. The session will address mass-fluxes on all scales, from diffusion over micrometer to hydrological and plate tectonic cycles. We welcome a wide range of contributions from those that document natural isotopic variability to those that use experiments to investigate driving forces behind such variations.

The closing date for early registration and abstract submission is 8th July 2009. Information about all sessions, workshops, field trips, online registration and accommodation may be found on the website (http://www.minersoc.org/pages/meetings/MAPT/MAPT.html#Registration)

We welcome your contribution to this session and look forward seeing you in Edinburgh,

Tim Elliott (University of Bristol; [log in to unmask])
Simone Kasemann (Freie Universität Berlin; [log in to unmask])
