Dear Listmembers, At the recent CF-IRMS workshop in Victoria, BC, there was some discussion regarding the advantages of using alumina sleeves in the combustion tube when burning materials collected on glass-fibre filters. I was wondering if anyone has advice/criticism regarding the use of quartz-fibre filters. Presumably, unlike GFF's, quartz-fibre filters would not melt in the combustion tube, and thus would not create the mess that the alumina sleeves are intended to clean up. Any comments? cheers, rickd ^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~ <>< ><> <>< Richard (Rick) Doucett Department of Biology, * nullum gratuitum prandium * University of Waterloo, *** there is no free lunch *** 200 University Avenue West, ><> Waterloo, Ontario, CANADA, N2L 3G1 ph: 519-888-4567, ext.6449 (office), ext.6747 (isotope lab) fax: 519-746-0614 <>< ><> email: [log in to unmask] http://www.science.uwaterloo.ca/research_groups/wbi/pages/riccv.html <>< ><> ><> _____\ | /_____\ | /_____\ | /_____\ | /_____\ | /_____\ | /______\ | /
