HEALTH SCIENCES LIBRARIAN -- SEARCH EXTENDED

The Biomedical Libraries of Dartmouth College and the Dartmouth Medical
School (DMS) seek a Health Sciences Librarian for the Matthews-Fuller
Health Sciences Library at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in
Lebanon, New Hampshire.

Dartmouth College, founded in 1769, is a private institution consisting of
an undergraduate college; professional schools of business, engineering,
and medicine; and 17 graduate programs in the arts and sciences. Total
student enrollment is approximately 5,500. DMS, founded in 1797, is the
nation's fourth-oldest medical school. Research in such areas as health
services and medical outcomes, cell and molecular biology, immunology, and
professional ethics bring national and international recognition. DMS has
550 full-time faculty and another 1,000 part-time and adjunct faculty, and
receives some 7,000 applications annually for approximately 75 places in
its first-year class. DMS is a component of the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical
Center (DHMC), which includes the Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital (429
beds, and New Hampshire's largest teaching hospital) and the Hitchcock
Clinic, a large faculty practice group. The College's Department of
Biological Sciences has 35 faculty with research interests ranging from
molecular and cell biology to environmental and evolutionary biology.

Dartmouth and DHMC are located in the rural and picturesque Upper
Connecticut River Valley. The Biomedical Libraries consist of the Health
Sciences Library and the Dana Biomedical Library at the College's Hanover,
New Hampshire, campus.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  Reporting to the Director of the Biomedical Libraries,
the Health Sciences Librarian manages the public services, operations, and
facilities of the Matthews-Fuller Health Sciences Library located at the
Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. Works as a member of a team providing
services in a flexible, innovative, and technically sophisticated
environment utilizing the Dartmouth College Information System, OVID, and a
wide variety of specialized, networked information resources. Supervises
access services personnel and provides direction for reference, information
resources development and management, and document delivery services at the
Health Sciences Library in coordination with the Dana Biomedical Library
and other College libraries. Provides biomedical reference to all segments
of the Dartmouth College community, the Dartmouth Medical School, and the
Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in support of education, research, and
patient care. Participates in the educational and liaison programs of the
Biomedical Libraries. Markets and publicizes information resources and
services.

QUALIFICATIONS:  ALA/MLS; five years of relevant health sciences library
experience (hospital or clinical libraries preferred) or equivalent. The
successful candidate will have strong administrative and supervisory,
interpersonal, and communication skills; ability to work in small-group and
team environments; strong commitment to public services; advanced reference
skills and proficiency in traditional and computer-assisted research; and
awareness of information needs of a wide variety of health sciences library
users, including clinical personnel, faculty and students in undergraduate
and graduate medical curricula, biomedical research personnel, and
patients/health care consumers in a hospital setting.

RANK AND SALARY:  Rank and salary commensurate with experience and
qualifications with a minimum salary of $34,500 for Librarian II or $40,000
for Librarian III. Full benefits package including 22 vacation days;
comprehensive health care; TIAA/CREF; and relocation assistance.
