AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE BURLINGTON VT
826 PM EDT TUE MAY 16 2000

RELEASED EVENING ZONE UPDATE EARLY TO COVER THE WIDESPREAD
SPRINKLES AND VERY LIGHT RAIN FALLING FROM THE ADIRONDACKS
THROUGH WESTERN VERMONT.

MOISTURE SEEMS TO HAVE SURGED IN AT MID LEVELS FROM THE EASTERN LAKES
BUT IS ALREADY SLIPPING SEWRD. THE COMPLICATION IS THAT THE RUC
AND MESOETA SUGGEST A RATHER SGFNT LOOKING VORT TROF WILL NOT PASS IN
THE NORTHWEST FLOW UNTIL THE EARLY MORNING HOURS. THIS COULD KEEP
THE SPRINKLES OCCURRING AND DELAY CLEARING UNTIL THE PREDAWN HOURS IN
SOUTHERN AND ERN PTN OF THE FCST AREA.

THE UPDATE FEATURES A MENTION OF SPRINKLES THROUGH MIDNIGHT
EVERYWHERE EXCEPT THE ST LAWRENCE VALLEY. WITH MORE CLOUDS...
RAISED THE MIN TEMPS A COUPLE DEGREES IN VT. INCREASED WINDS
TO 10 MPH MOST AREAS BEFORE BECOMING LIGHT TOWARD MORNING IN NRN
NY. WITH SHORT RANGE MDLS NOW SHOWING GOOD DRYING AND NVA FOR
WEDNESDAY...CHANGED SKY FCST TO MOSTLY SUNNY ALL AREAS.

.BTV...NONE.

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE BURLINGTON VT
325 PM EDT TUE MAY 16 2000

SHRTWV TO MOVE ACROSS FCST AREA TONIGHT TO BRING SOME MID AND HIGH
CLOUDS IN...BUT SKIES SHOULD BECOME PARTLY CLOUDY LATE TONIGHT
AS SHRTWV PASSES TO OUR EAST. WED...SHOULD BE PARTLY SUNNY AND A
BIT WARMER AS HI PRES MOVES OFF THE EAST COAST AND WARMER SOUTHERLY
FLOW DEVELOPS ACROSS THE REGION. WED NIGHT...A SHRTWV APPROACHES
THE REGION LATE...WITH A CHC OF SHOWERS. NGM MOS POPS LOOK TOO LOW
WED NIGHT...SO HAVE COMPROMISED WITH THE HIGHER AVN CHC FAN POPS WED
NIGHT.

ON THU...MODELS DIFFER WITH ETA THE FASTEST IN MOVG THE COLD FRONT
SOUTH DURING THU MORNING ACROSS OUR FCST AREA...AND AVN AND NGM
KEEPING THE COLD FRONT NORTH OF OUR FCST AREA BY 12Z THU. MODELS
SHOW A WAVE OF LOW PRES DEVELOPING ALONG THIS COLD FRONT ON THU AND
THEN MOVG NE UP THE ST LAWRENCE VLY THU AFTERNOON. WILL GO WITH THE
SLOWER AVN AND NGM MODELS WITH THE MOVEMENT OF THE COLD FRONT ON
THU...GIVEN THAT A WAVE OF LOW PRES WILL MOVE NE ALONG IT. TSTM
POPS LOW ON THU...SO WILL ONLY MENTION A CHC OF A TSTM. HAVE
COMPROMISED ON POPS FOR THU...AS NGM MOS HAS LIKELY POPS WHILE THE
AVN FAN POPS ARE CATEGORICAL. WILL GO WITH CATEGORICAL POPS OF 80
PERCENT ON THU.

HAVE GONE WITH MOS TEMPS THRU THE PERIOD...EXCEPT HAVE COMPROMISED
BETWEEN COOLER AVN FAN TEMPS AND WARMER NGM MOS TEMPS FOR THU MAX
TEMPS...AS CLOUD COVER AND RAIN SHOWERS SHOULD KEEP TEMPS BLO NGM
MOS MAXES ON THU.

ON EXTENDED...COOER AIR COMING INTO FCST AREA WITH 540
THICKNESS ALONG THE CANADIAN BORDER BY 12Z FRI...WILL GO WITH
MOSTLY CLOUDY SKIES AND CHC OF SHOWERS...AS AIR ALOFT WILL BE COLD
AND UNSTABLE. HIGH PRES BUILDS TO OUR NORTH SAT AND SUN WITH
PARTLY SUNNY SKIES...ALTHOUGH COOLER TEMPS.

.BTV...NONE.
