My name is Mark MacLeod, founder, instructor, and president of the
Dalhousie
University Kendo Club in Halifax, NS, Canada. After one year of
operation
(Sept 1999), we have had 150 members attend our Kendo lessons. In
response
to the growing popularity of Kendo in Halifax, and a need for supportive
infrastructure in this geographically isolated region, I established the
Atlantic Kendo Association.

We seek affiliation with Kendo and swordfighting organizations situated
in
close proximity to us, as the nearest major Kendo Clubs in Canada are
situated in Montreal – a distance of 1800km from Halifax! The Atlantic
Kendo
Association will provide the following:

i) a Kendo Club “circuit” for competitions, exchanges, seminars, and CKF
kyu-level grading (for Canadian Clubs).

ii) a permanent information network that will enable member and
supporting
Dojos to keep up to date on upcoming events in Maritime Canada and North
Eastern USA.

iii) a small WWW page for member Kendo Clubs (and supporting Kendo
Federations) hosted on my personal server – at no cost, and assist with
promoting Kendo in your community.

iv) to establish an annual Kendo Competition in a city that is mutually
convenient for all member Kendo Clubs and supporting Kendo Federations –
in
Maine, Vermont, or New Brunswick.

Established two weeks ago, the Atlantic Kendo Association consists of 3
members, we are looking forward to establishing a formal relationship
with
your organization to expand our network of supportive Kendoka and Kendo
Clubs. To assist us in our first year of
operation, we request a donation of $25 CDN (payable to the Atlantic
Kendo
Association) as a one time fee.

Looking forward to your support,

Mark MacLeod
Chairman
Atlantic Kendo Association
