New Regional Historic Site Administrator

The Vermont Division for Historic Preservation is pleased to announce that
after a nationwide search, Elsa Gilbertson of Starksboro, Vermont has been
hired as the Regional Historic Site Administrator based at the Chimney Point
State Historic Site in Addison. This position became vacant when Audrey C.
Porsche left to join her husband in Annapolis, Maryland. Ms. Porsche had
been Regional Site Administrator for twelve years and was instrumental in
the development of Chimney Point and Mount Independence.

Ms. Gilbertson, who grew up in Starksboro, graduated with honors from
Wellesley College and received a Master of Science degree from Columbia
University. She has worked at the Division for Historic Preservation as the
National Register Specialist and as Assistant Editor of The Historic
Architecture of Rutland County (1988) and The Historic Architecture of
Addison County (1992). She has taught in the Graduate Program in Historic
Preservation at the University of Vermont and as a teaching assistant at
Columbia University. Prior to this she was a history consultant for the
Staten Island (N.Y.) Historical Society/Richmondtown Restoration where she
assisted with the development of exhibits and programs. Locally she has
been active in the restoration of the Starksboro Village Meeting House, a
founding member of the Starksboro Conservation Commission, and on the Board
of Directors for Mount Abraham Union High School where she was chair of the
Budget Committee. Governor Howard Dean, M.D. presented Ms. Gilbertson with
an Exceptional State Employee Award in 1997 and she was the recipient of the
Staten Island Borough President's Special Achievement Award in 1985.

As Regional Historic Site Administrator, Ms. Gilbertson will be responsible
for the direction, development, and implementation of interpretive exhibits
and educational programs at The Chimney Point State Historic Site, The Mount
