Karen and fellow board members:
I agree with Karens basic thesis that we are not interested in
confrontational meetings with neighbouring boards.  We should however be
interested in productive ones.  I feel that Mikes assessment is correct
... currently the other local boards have no interest in being involved
seriously in these issues.  That is the problem.  I believe we need to
lay out our own position clearly and honestly in respect to the two
assessment issues BEFORE we sit down for a talk.  Then WE CAN DO THE
LISTENING and hopefully move the discussion along toward ideas on
resolving differences.  That will not be possible with the scenario that
is being suggested.  If this makes sense, perhaps Karen could edit my
draft to soften any language which strikes her as confrontational, while
maintaining or enhancing clarity in respect to communicating our
