Mrs. Orr’s Classroom News
March 22, 2001

Dear Moms and Dads,

I look forward to seeing you at our parent teacher conferences today or tomorrow so that I may share many pieces of your child’s work with you.  Comparing work samples from the beginning of the year to March can be quite impressive.

Our friend, Chocolate the traveling puppy, continues to be a popular house guest.  Chocolate has indicated in the journal that he likes to use powerful describing words in his writing.  You might ask your child what describing words Chocolate could use when he/she visits your home.

This week we read a book about Frederick Douglass and his fight for freedom as part of our famous American study.  You might ask your child what slavery conditions were like.  The next famous Americans we will study as a group are: Harriet Tubman, Louisa May Alcott, and Henry Ford.

This week we welcomed Mrs. Dow back and had to say good bye to Miss Polo.  We are lucky to work with two such dedicated and creative teachers this year.

Here are some questions to ask your child this week:

1)  Is there something you would like me to ask Mrs. Orr about this week at the parent/teacher conference?
2)  What are some areas that your report card says you do well in?
3)  What are some areas that your report card says you could work on to get better at?  How might you get better at these things?
4)  How do you think you are doing at school?

That’s it for this week.  Enjoy your sharing time with your child.

Sincerely,
Kathi Orr
