Dana, you're making this sound a lot worse than it is!!  Take a page from the
Malczyk Cookbook.  Take a pair of your skis to your table saw, slice into 3 or 4
peices (3 if you're a whose, 4 if you've got the llabs for long boards).  Run
over to your hardware store, grab a couple hinges.  Mount a couple sliding bolts
on the top sheet, so that you can lock the ski straight, and voila!

Or...

...Pull a Jackal, and disguise your skis as crutches (add a plaster cast for
realism.  might get you more legroom and you can always store gear in it).

Or...

Bring a screwdriver with you to the ski area.  Find a pair of skis that you
like.  Reset the bindings.  Enjoy the day!
