The Earth and Environmental Sciences Division of Los Alamos National Laboratory is seeking applicants to compete in the Laboratory’s prestigious Postdoctoral Fellowship Program. We are interested in sponsoring candidates in all areas of light stable isotope mass spectrometry.  The Division has just ordered a new Micromass CF-IRMS with an automated system for analysis of waters, carbonates and DIC. In addition the system will be coupled to elemental analyzers for combustion and pyrolysis of liquids and solids, will have compound specific capability (GC combustion and pyrolysis), and will have a pre-concentration and purification device for trace gases.  Candidates with background in biogeochemical studies utilizing GC-IRMS are especially encouraged to apply.  Research interests in carbon sequestration, the water cycle, and global change would be particularly relevant.

Applicants must have exceptional academic and publication records to compete for one of the limited number of Postdoctoral Fellow appointments awarded quarterly. Successful candidates selected for Postdoctoral Fellowships pursue research of their own choosing and can take advantage of complete, state-of-the-art laboratory and computing facilities. They also have opportunities to become involved with existing and newly evolving projects and programs, and there are ample opportunities to collaborate with other Laboratory divisions.

Los Alamos National Laboratory employs over 10,000 people in a wide range of scientific disciplines. The Earth and Environmental Sciences Division ( employs about 300 people on projects that focus Earth science expertise on issues of national importance, including environmental and energy research. The Laboratory is well equipped for studies of Earth materials and has outstanding computing facilities.

A Ph.D. completed within the last five years or soon to be completed is required. Candidates may compete for a Director's Fellowship and may be considered for the prestigious J. Robert Oppenheimer, Richard P. Feynman or Frederick Reines Fellowships. Further details about the Postdoctoral Program may be found at: .
