Ann,

While chipmunks may occasionally be on their menu, typically Peregrines
would prefer a nice fat pigeon or Mourning Dove. They will swoop down while
they are feeding on the ground and knock them out of the air when they
flush - basically the same way they hunt shorebirds and waterfowl. They
prefer to take prey from the air.
