There were 6 killdeer this a.m. on the lower field of South Park in
Burlington.  I have never seen them there.  I thought they might be
in trouble as they hardly moved even though the dog and I were
fairly close before I noticed them.  I went back with some wild
birdfood (I had no idea if they would even be interested).  This time
they flew to the other side of the field and when I drove by a while
later they were hunkered down again right where they had landed.
My guess is they are exhausted.  Could it be they are here because
of the storm?  They have not eaten the birdfood and probably don't
even know it is there.  I never know if I should try to help or not.
This "spring" must be very hard on the migrants.  Jo Ann Lafayette
