Last evening around 5 pm on hatchery pond in Grand Isle found my first pair of Northern Shoveler. The patterning of the male was quite distinct and once I got the binos on them the large bill was apparent on both male and female. As they moved about in the pond they both kept their head dipped with the bill in the water a good deal of the time. Also present were four pair of ring-necked ducks and a pair of mallard.
