Hi Krista, I concur with Jesse. Meet with your local Benefits counselor and discuss Medicaid for the Working Disabled. This should fly unless your client has more than $2,000.00 in assetts, or is not considered medically disabled according to the Disability Determination Unit. Her earned income, unless it is more than $24,000.00 annually (approximation here) should not be a barrier to Medicaid, but actually a qualifying criteria for eligibility. The SRS connection can make things confusing, as SRS can not bill Medicaid services typically, and even are forbidden making a Medicaid application while the client is in SRS. If she was on Medicaid at one time after turning 18, she should qualify still...the income should NOT be the reason they make her ineligible. Hope this helps...Paul Miller/JOB's WCMHS -----Original Message----- From: Jesse Barth [mailto:[log in to unmask]] Sent: Wednesday, May 14, 2003 3:23 PM To: [log in to unmask] Subject: Re: Medicaid issue -----Original Message----- From: Jesse Barth Sent: Wednesday, May 14, 2003 3:23 PM To: [log in to unmask] Subject: Re: Medicaid issue Hi Krista, Have you and the consumer met with the Benefits Counselor? If not I recommend that you do. What about Medicaid for the working Disabled? I writing to find out if any of you have run into difficulty with keeping your clients on Medicaid? I recently had a client who is in SRS CARE (not custody), who did originally qualify for medicaid, but when she was reviewed this month she was found ineligible, because they felt her income level was too high. They counted her SRS living stipend along with her job (only working 1 day a week) as income. She is now only eligible for VHAP. Does anyone know a way around this? Once she graduates next month, she will no longer recieve the SRS $, but may recieve transitional services money and will most likely be working full time. Which will put her over the limit again, I am sure. I also have another kid in a similar situation. I am finding it difficult to keep my 18+ clients on medicaid in order to support the program. I would really appreciate feedback anyone has to offer. Thanks, Krista LaFemina Rutland JOBS 786-9967 ext 12
